Object permanency and delayed response as spatial context in monkeys with frontal lesions.

چکیده
Frontally lesioned monkeys (Macaca jasicularis) were significantly impaired relative to controls on a task (similar to that used by Piaget to test the development of object permanency) which required subjects to retrieve a grape hidden under one of three baskets. All monkeys with such lesions completely failed to reach criterion on an additional set of tasks in which the baskets were moved (i.e. the spatial context was modified) while controls performed these tasks with relative ease. Both deficits were shown to be attributable to an inability of "frontal" monkeys to process a varying spatial context.

Effect of Deprivation on Delayed Response and Delayed Alternation Performance by Normal and Brain Operated Monkeys
3 monkeys impaired on delayed response and delayed alternation after midlateral frontal lesions, 3 monkeys unimpaired on these tasks after control lesions, and 3 unoperated monkeys were tested on spatial delayed response (with direct baiting) and spatial delayed alternation following 2, 26, and 50 hr. of food deprivation. Increased deprivation improved delayed response performance by all groups...

متن کاملEvidence for dissociation of impairment on auditory discrimination and delayed response following lateral frontal lesions in monkeys.
Impairments on both delayed-response and auditory-discrimination tasks have been reported to follow lateral frontal cortical lesions in monkeys. The present study is primarily concerned with the relationship of these two deficits. Three monkeys received ablations of sulcus principalis; three received ablations of lateral frontal cortex excluding sulcus principalis. Acquisition and retention of ...
متن کاملThe effects of instability of the visual display on pattern discrimination learning by monkeys: dissociation produced after resections of frontal and inferotemporal cortex.
Rhesus monkeys with anterior frontal (N = 7), posterior parietal (N = 4), or infcrotemporal (N = 4) lesions and normal controls (N = 3) were trained on visual discrimination problems under conditions in which the stimulus display either remained in the same place or shifted randomly over a wide range of positions from tria! to trial. Naive monkeys with frontal lesions were significantly impaire...
متن کاملHippocampal electrical activity in the monkey during delayed alternation problems.
.... 1 I .. , A well known effect of lesions of frontal granular cortex and of all limbic structures including the hippocampus is the impairment of the classical delayed spatial alternation problem (Pribram et at. 1952. 1962, 1966; Mishkin and Pribram 1955; Mishkin 1964; McEnaney and Butter 1969). Not every alternation performance, however. shows a decrement from frontal cortex or medial forebr...
